Raymond Needs a Very Special Volunteer

Raymond is a 10-year-old boy who was born in Sudan. He currently lives in Greater Portland with his mother and younger sister. He needs male companionship. He only gets to see his father every 2-3 months. Raymond is interested in watching sports, especially baseball, basketball and wrestling. He likes playing video games. He would love to go to the movies and he really likes computers. He enjoys doing art and crafts, and is interested in going to Caravan Beads to make jewelry. He interested in cars too.

Raymond would really benefit from just being out of his apartment after school and on the weekends. He needs a Big Brother who is able to overlook his disability and focus on his abilities.

He has Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive disease that causes weakness and degeneration of the skeletal muscles that control movement in his body. It is a disability that prevents him from walking. He has a foldable wheelchair that goes with him always. At 100 pounds, Raymond needs to be physically picked up and put in and out of a car. The right volunteer for Raymond would have to be kind, and patient, non-judgmental and not in a hurry. This person must not mind transporting a wheelchair, and physically picking him up at times. He is a very sweet kid.
